What is The DMV Handbook?

The California Driver Handbook is a 116-page booklet published by the California Department of Motor Vehicles. It’s available for all types of drivers (including commercial and motorcycle) in a wide variety of languages (English, Armenian, Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Tagalog, Russian, Punjabi, Farsi, American Sign Language).

What Is Covered In the Handbook?

New traffic laws effective January 01, 2017. These laws include Use of Electronic Wireless Devices, DUI Ignition Interlock Device, Motorcycle Lane Splitting, and Public Transit Bus Lanes.

Where can I get a California DMV handbook?

To get a hard copy of the driver’s manual by snail mail, contact your local CA DMV office or call (800) 777-0133 (office hours between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.). You can also pick up a driving manual in person at your local DMV office.

How many questions are on the California DMV test?

To pass the DMV written test, you’ll need to take the California DMV written test, which will have 46 questions and you’ll be required to answer 38 correctly to pass. To get a permit, you’ll pay a $33 fee and must take a standard vision test at your local DMV, in addition to the written knowledge test.

How many questions are on a California DMV renewal test?

If you are testing as part of renewal, the renewal written test has only 18 questions. Take your time and read each question carefully, trying not to read anything extra into the questions. There are no trick questions, and there is only one correct answer per question.
